CHRONICLE STAFF REPORTS
Trailblazing Executive Approaches Milestone with Bank
In October, Rhonda Davenport Johnson will celebrate her 20th anniversary with Comerica Bank and she will be able to reflect on two decades of outstanding achievement.

A first vice president, Davenport Johnson holds the distinction of being the first African American woman appointed to the position of retail regional manager for Comerica Bank.

“I see my role as a leader who is committed to supporting the success of my Comerica team,” said Davenport Johnson, who directs the operations for 20 Comerica banking centers in Oakland County. “I enjoy helping others be successful through coaching and developing.”

During her tenure at Comerica, Davenport Johnson also has served as regional manager for the Ann Arbor market and new business development officer for Comerica’s African American Business Initiative.

Away from the office, Davenport Johnson is active in her church and serves on the board of directors for Hospice of Michigan Foundation and Garden City Hospital.

She says her motivation comes from a strong spiritual foundation and the support of her family.

“My inspiration comes from my relationship with the Lord,” said Davenport Johnson, a graduate of Western Michigan University where she earned a bachelor’s degree in business administration and an MBA.

“I come from a close, loving and supportive family that defines who I am today. My parents (Rufus and Annie Davenport) taught us the importance of education, being humble, having a strong work ethic, integrity, morals and the importance of giving back to those less fortunate.

“I am also blessed to have a wonderful husband, Chris Johnson, who is my best friend and mentor.”
