For over seventy years, the Michigan Chronicle has evolved itself as the “Voice of the Community”, bringing together news, lifestyle and entertainment relevant to the African American community, and all other cultures that understand the importance of diversity in the press.

This year, the Michigan Chronicle will celebrate its continued legacy of excellence with its annual gala.  In one room, political leaders, business executives, entertainers and newspaper subscribers will be invited to join together in support the legendary newspaper, its accomplishments and future endeavors.

In addition, the Michigan Chronicle is highly dedicated to the job crisis within the metro-Detroit community.  To this end, a portion of the proceeds from this year’s gala will go to furthering the education of adults who are in need of additional training/degrees to re-establish a career in the community.

THE CHRONICLING EXCELLENCE AWARDS
The Chronicling Excellence Awards honor the people and organizations that have made important contributions to the community’s economic growth, social change and overall development and well-being.  They are living examples of the excellence that creates a lasting impression when people are committed to the purpose of enriching the lives of others through their good works.

Honorees are recognized in four categories:
 Company of the Year
 Contemporary Pioneer
 Family Spirit
 Sam Logan Lifetime Achievement Award

Awards are given annually, one per category.  Nominations are made by the nominating committee – a group of individuals working in various fields within the state of Michigan.  The selection committee, whose membership rotates from year to year, reviews the nominees.  Winners are contacted prior to the event and are able to extend invitations to family and friends.  Winners receive a commemorative medallion to display proudly in their home or place of business.
