Eastsider serves customers, community
A native east side Detroiter, Crystal Butts feels right at home serving customers at the Comerica banking center located at Gratiot and Eight Mile.

“I am responsible for expanding current relationships with our clients, attracting relationships with prospective clients as well as managing the day to day operations of our office,” said Butts, who joined Comerica in 2001. “The most rewarding part of my job would definitely be the people I encounter each day.”

Butts prepared for her future career by earning a bachelor’s degree in business management from Michigan State.

“Working at Comerica each week brings new opportunities and new situations,” said Butts, a graduate of Renaissance High School. “Each day I arrive at the office with a plan, different tasks that I hope to accomplish that day. Depending on the day and the type of customer situations that I encounter, I may veer from that plan to ensure that the office is managed efficiently and customers are satisfied.”

Away from the office, Butts is school board secretary for Ross Hill Academy, a charter school located in Detroit. She also is a member of the finance and leadership teams at Williams Chapel Baptist Church. At work, or in the community, Butts says her daily motivation is fueled by God and her one-year-old daughter, Morgan.

“I work hard each day to ensure that I am able to provide for Morgan as well as be an example of a strong woman in her eyes,” said Butts, who is engaged to Charles Dennis, Jr. “I want her to grow up and know that that life is full of opportunities and as long as you keep God first, the world can not hold you back.”
