The Detroit 300 Conservancy and Campus Martius Park
Amp Fiddler Campus Martius Park to kick off fee Summer In the Park Series
The Detroit 300 Conservancy and Campus Martius Park will launch the Fourth Fridays With Ford Kicks summer season on Friday, May 23. All concerts will be held at Campus Martius Park located on Woodward between Fort Street and Michigan Avenue.
The kickoff will be from 11 a.m. to midnight with Fourth Fridays with Ford, a full day and evening of entertainment, music, activities, food, drink and downtown specials.
Headlining will be the R&B vocalist Solomon Burke recognized as one of the greatest rhythm ’n’ blues singers of all time. A 2002 Grammy Award winner with many devoted fans, Burke is acknowledged alongside such legendary “soul men” as Sam Cooke, Wilson Pickett, and Bobby Womack. Also performing will be Detroit’s own Amp Fiddler with his “signature funk and soul.” An accomplished keyboard player, Fiddler has liberally lent his talents playing with everyone from Prince to George Clinton to Primal Scream. His current album, “Afro Strut,” brings together his wide range of influences into something unique.
Kevin and Michael Bacon will perform on Friday, July 25, at Campus Martius Park.
Throughout the season, adults, young people and children will be able to enjoy mid-afternoon musical performances with the popular “Lunchtime Arts,” get in shape with the energetic “Healthy Moves,” relax with a good read at the “Saturday Book Club,” visit the ”Sunday Café” which showcases creative arts and slam competitions, and spend quality family time at the “Kidshow” with its children’s theatre, storytelling and ice cream social. The Comcast Summer Film Series will also return.
