Time to Take Over the World

Hard work, dedication and perseverance are all key ingredients to achieving success in any arena. For Live the Music Group singing/rap sensation Roc Stea-D, this mindset has them pegged as the next mega group to be added to Motown roster of hit-makers.

Detroit natives Brittany Elliott and Jessica LaMarr make up the dynamic duo that has literally taken the city by storm. From their signature charismatic tracks, like Take Ova the World and Alone, to their undeniably superior stage show, Roc Stea-D has positioned themselves to become a household name.

The FrontPage had a chance to sit down with Roc Stea-D to find out about their experience with the music business and what the secret is to their success.

FrontPage: Who is Roc Stea-D?

Brittany: Roc Stea-D is comprised of myself and Jessica LaMarr, and together we are a dynamic, show-stopping, energetic, fun for all ages, hip-pop group from Detroit. We’re humble and love the Lord and are just excited to share our talent.

FP: What is hip-pop?

Jessica: Brittany is a rapper so in our music we have the rap element there. I am the vocalist so you have the R&B, and we both dance so you gotta have the pop that’s going on. The popular music – something that we can move our bodies to. So that’s hip-pop.

FP: Tell me about your single “Take Ova the World.”

B: “Take Ova the World” is one of my personal favorites. It’s basically about just being excited to share our talent with anybody who’s listening and really just dominate every aspect of the industry that we possibly can.

FP: Being two young women in the industry, how do you see yourselves as being able to dominate?

B: I think that we’re poised first and foremost because we know where our center is and we’re God-fearing and God-loving people. And we know that without Him nothing is possible. I think beyond anything else we have so much experience. We’ve been dancers before we were really even artists. We’ve been on the road with T.I., Ciara, Yung Joc, Lloyd.

We have expertise and the knowledge to be successful artists in this industry, opposed to people who are just aspiring and really are just walking into the game blindfolded. We’ve had that. We’ve done videos, we’ve done tours, we’ve been around the best producers nationally and citywide, and we’ve just soaked everything up like sponges. And I think that gives us an advantage.

FP: So what sets Roc Stea-D apart from other groups that are out now?

J: First of all, we’re something that’s never been done before: a rapper and a singer that are both dancers. We really love each other, we get along very, very well, we love God and this is a huge passion of ours. Even if we weren’t making any money or anything, this would still be something that we would work hard at doing. Through many of the struggles that we’ve been through, we still work hard doing it because we love it so much.

B: It’s a genuine love for it. I think that everybody ultimately wants to be successful financially in the game but we’ve been doing it for so long we know it’s something that we love doing because all the time you’re not going to get compensated or just the glory for everything you’re doing. It just has to really be something that resonates from inside.

FP: Explain the Roc Stea-D experience because I’ve seen your show and it is amazing.

B: The Roc Stea-D experience? Wow, that is a great word! The experience is something…just be prepared for anything! We defy gravity in our shows, we’re using props…

J: It’s not just something that we plan in our heads. We just live on stage and that’s what we do. An experience is a very good word to describe it. All the love and the drive and the passion that we have for performing and the desire to do it is what we display in our show on stage.

B: Absolutely and I think that every artist isn’t necessarily someone who loves to perform. We love to perform. I think that comes out of us on stage. We love being in front of people and I think that people can really see it. We’re jumping off the walls in everyday life so that shows in our performance.

FP: Tell me about “Alone.”

J: “Alone” is the first song we did with this company called Live. It was something that we didn’t even think we were going to do. It’s just something different for us.

B: “Alone” is one of my favorites. It’s a personal song that a lot of people can relate to. Everybody at one point in time has felt the way that “Alone” kind of explains. It’s crazy because it’s a favorite of a lot of people.

J: It’s something different too because when people think of Roc Stea-D they think of energy, fast songs, rock out, I’m independent, I don’t need anything. But it’s a really vulnerable side of us. It’s a side that’s just more personal and when we perform it, its just more so I’m going to kick it with the audience and get personal with the audience.

FP: What do you want Detroit to know, expect and look out for from Roc Stea-D?

RS: We love you so please love us back and just expect good things. We promise we won’t let you down.
