FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan and Partners Present "HUSTLE FOR HEALTH"
Detroit, MI., April 24, 2008 — More than 1,000 metro
Detroiters will dance their way to a healthier lifestyle and a healthier Michigan when the
inaugural “Hustle for Health” event is held at the Charles H. Wright Museum of
African American History from 6 to 11 p.m. on Friday, June 6, 2008.
Blue Cross Blue Shield of
Michigan, in partnership with the Detroit Community Health Connection (DCHC)
and Gamma Lambda Community Development Corporation (GLCDC), is coordinating the
pre-summer, health-based celebration.
The purpose of the event is
two-fold — to encourage fitness through dance in a social setting, while helping
to increase awareness and funds for two local non-profit organizations, DCHC
and GLCDC.
“We thought this was a great
way to partner, not just for a single purpose, but for several reasons,” said
Derek Ware of DCHC. “We are not only encouraging people to be physically
active, but also raising funds for two groups that address two other key needs
for Detroiters—health and mentoring our young people.”
Participants will receive
lessons for several popular dances, including multiple variations of the Hustle,
and beginning and advanced steps in Ballroom and Salsa styles.
“This partnership was formed
in an effort to help build a healthier Michigan
and control health care costs. America is
spending more than ever on chronic health problems such as obesity, heart
disease and diabetes. Being active in
our community provides us with opportunities to support causes that are
important to our residents, customers, members, providers and employees.” said
Lloyd Banks, manager of Community Affairs for Blue Cross Blue Shield of
Michigan.
Tax-deductible tickets are
$25 and are available by calling Derek Ware at (313) 821-2591 – ext. 3112 or Al
Elvin of GLCDC at (313) 779-9537. Sponsorships
opportunities for interested organizations are also available. Please contact Melanie McCall-Brown at (313)
618-6304 for sponsorship information.
