The Michigan Chronicle

The Michigan Chronicle is the state's oldest and most respected African American newspaper.Founded in April 1936, by Lucius Harper, The Michigan Chronicle is not only a newspaper, but is also a productive business that participates and contributes to many worthy projects.  The Michigan Chronicle has received many national and local journalism and community service awards and is recognized as one of the largest weekly newspapers in Michigan, with a VAC audited circulation of 31,872.In all of its 71 years, The Michigan Chronicle has followed a policy based upon the proposition that second-class citizenship for Blacks must be destroyed.  The position it has taken in politics, labor, civic affairs and other community issues have consistently reflected that policy.  It has become an institution and an integral part of the total community life.  We now look forward to new horizons in a rapidly changing society, confident of its ability to meet the challenges of the coming years as it did the first 71 years.
