Parts Of Downtown Detroit Lose Power

DETROIT (WWJ) - Authorities say an underground cable problem is causing a power outage for several parts of downtown Detroit Thursday morning.
WWJ’s Ron Dewey reports the outage started in select areas Wednesday afternoon, including at some hotels where fire department EMS were called in to help people caught in elevators and on top floors.
Overnight, more buildings fell off the grid, including the Renaissance Center, Millender Center and Madden Building.
Some buildings are running on a backup power source, while others have been using industrial-size generators to keep the lights on.
It’s unclear exactly how long before power will be restored to the downtown area.
