Jay Noren, Wayne State University president who became the 10th president two years ago, will resign effective Aug. 6. President Noren cited his wife Sheri’s breast cancer diagnosis as the reason for his decision.

According to Noren, his wife’s illness “dramatically increased our personal challenges this past year.” He thanked the Board of Governors for their support. Meanwhile, Dr. Phyllis Vroom, dean of the School of Social Work and acting provost, will be serving as acting president as a national search for a new president gets under way.
