Last month, the skincare company, Vaseline launched a skin-lightening application for male Facebook users in India.
Designed to whiten the skin of the user’s profile pictures on Facebook, it was created to help promote their latest product among their skin-whitening line in India called Vaseline Men UV Whitening Body Lotion.
Based on a statement released by a spokesperson for Unilever, the parent company of Vaseline, said, “The Facebook application was created for the Indian market as a culturally relevant and engaging way for Indian men to interact with this product.”
In India, it is culturally believed that lighter skin complexion is associated with wealth and success.
