Indiana Pacers' draft pick, Lance Stephenson, 19 was arrested on Sunday after allegedly assaulting his girlfriend according to the Huffington Post.
Based on witness statements, the incident occurred Sunday morning around 5 a.m. after his girlfriend Jasmine Williams returned to her Brooklyn apartment with two friends.
Stephenson, who was waiting for her yelled, “Are you kidding me?” before allegedly pushing her down a flight of stairs. After she landed at the bottom, he also reportedly picked up her head and slammed it on the bottom step.
Prosecutors said Stephenson, who was arrested on assault, menacing and harassment charges gave a different account when police arrived, stating that Williams fell down the stairs.
She reportedly suffered head, back and possible neck injuries.
Alberto Ebanks, Stephenson’s attorney said in a statement on Monday that his client “did not maliciously, intentionally or in any other way cause harm to Jasmine Williams.”
He also added, “ Everyone, especially Lance regrets that this incident occurred. We look forward to addressing these charges in the appropriate venues.”
Prosecutors requested his bail be set at $7500 but he was released from jail that Sunday evening on his own recognizance.
