WALLED LAKE (WWJ) - Walled Lake Consolidated School District will be keeping students inside on Monday, because of the recent random shootings in the area.
Spokesperson Judy Evola said they’re not sure when the all-clear will be given to go outside again.
“We’re hoping that this individual will be apprehended and we can return to our normal procedures,” Evola said, adding that the district is acting out of an abundance of caution.
A police task force including members of the ATF and Michigan State Police worked through out the weekend in an effort to find the person or persons responsible for shooting at cars and people in Oakland, Livingston, Ingham and Shiawassee Counties.
So far, only cars have been struck and no injuries have been reported.
Talking to WWJ Newsradio 950 Monday morning, Oakland County Sheriff Mike Bouchard said there have been 20 incidents involving random shootings, all occurred between Oct. 16 and 18.
“Well, we don’t know if it’s one person, but given the short timelines and the duration of the period when this all happened — much before the public was even aware, you know, in terms of copycat potential …I think intuitively it’s one person or persons.
Police this weekend released a sketch of a possible suspect.
Bouchard said the MSP crime lab is now looking at ballistic evidence.
No pattern has been detected, and police are urging people to be cautious.
Bouchard said there have been no new incidents since the task force was assembled.
Anyone who knows anything about this crime is asked to contact the Wixom Police Department at 248-624-6114 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-SPEAK-UP.
