Newsflash: Harry Belafonte Lecture Cancellation

Due to a sudden unavoidable conflict, the Damon Keith Biennial Lecture featuring Harry Belafonte, planned for October 30 has been Cancelled.  The staff at the WSU Law School are currently working on a plan to reschedule the lecture. We will notify you when we receive information about a new program date, and hope that you will again be able to attend.  If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me or LaJuan Bryant at 313.222.5269.

Dr. William Pickard To Pen Foreword For Inaugural Edition

Through its Who’s Who Publishing subsidiary, Real Times Media, publishers of African American newspapers around the country, including the Michigan Chronicle, announced that it will publish a coffee table book highlighting the contributions of African Americans in the automotive industry.   Titled “Driven:  A Tribute to African-American Achievement in the Auto Industry,” the book will focus on the African Americans who helped to build and maintain the automotive industry.  Dr. William F. Pickard, founder, chariman and CEO of Global Automotive Alliance, will write the foreword for the first edition.

Esther Davis Dies

Esther Davis, mother of Donald Davis, chairman and CEO of First Independence Bank, died Sept. 28 at age 95. She was born in Comer, Ala., and moved to Detroit in 1934.
