I was too young to go to the 20 grand, in its hayday but I heard a lot of the best story-telling I will always treasure from my parents and their friends who attended regularly. Of course they never knew I was listening (or maybe they did) :) When I got of age and was able to attend; many of the clubs mentioned were on its last leg and getting ready to close its doors but they were still simply beautiful inside. At Mr. Kelly I was able to see Rudy Ray Moore, Ethels Lounge I saw the Joe Tex revue and Ben's Hi Chaparral met Dennis Edwards, The Originals and Rufus with Ckaka Khan. You would often see the big celebrities coming in not to perform just to enjoy and mingle with the crowd. I loved the memories; looking at all the couples (dressed up in their fancy best) walking thru the doors awaiting a pat down by security (which was a norm and no big thing back in the day). Ernie D was the best! He had a parade of followers! Fans like myself will always treasure the wonderful memories.
