This was not just a community figure, a pioneer and an icon, this was a decent, caring, compassionate man who I personally looked up to and admired. Leadership personified.

My heart is saddened by the passing of Mr. Sam Logan. In my view, Sam was always a good man. I never heard a negative word about him. He was true to his beliefs. He loved his people but was not the type who was willing to give false passes for what he believed to be wrong. He believed we could and should do better in our community, and we had a moral responsibility to do the right thing for not only ourselves but for our family as well as for our community. The community of the human race. Sam Logan will be sorely missed. I will miss him. I will miss our talks. I will miss his honesty. He was quite a gentleman. I could go on and on but I've not slept since hearing of his death. It's time for my body to rest with hopes to wake up in a couple of hours or so. Sam, say hello to my dad Willie Louis Johnson, who met God on July 6, 2011. Whoever is blessed to become Michigan Chronicle's next Publisher will never be able to take your place. God, Our Father please forgive Sam Logan of any and all sins. Only you know the man he was. On his behalf and as one of many of his witnesses, he was a good man, but I'm so sure you know that. I thank you God so much for sharing such a gem with us!
