Tough times or not, in Detroit General Motors, Ford and Chrysler are as much a sense of American pride as are baseball and apple pie anywhere else.
In fact, some Detroiters would probably rather be cruising the city in their Mustangs or some classic Chevys than spending a day at the ballpark
any day. You need look no further than Belle Isle on a sunny Saturday afternoon for reference.
Of course, that’s not to take anything away from Detroiters’ love for their Tigers.
But for some in the city, the passion for American automobiles runs that deep....

The Detroit Lions recently hosted youth football players from Oxford and Detroit at a training camp practice at the Lions’ Headquarters and Practice Facility, in Allen park.
More than 60 players and coaches from the Oxford Junior Wildcats and the Detroit Cobras attended the practice, as the Lions recognized a special equipment donation made earlier this spring.

All in the Metro Detroit area long for a season close to the one that the 2006 Tigers had. However, the road to match that glorious year is full of
minefields.
As the season has progressed, no matter the negative banter of many, the Tigers are still in first place in the American League Central Division.
I know at times it looks like they have gotten there with smoke and mirrors, and maybe they have. Yet, here we are with less than 50 games
remaining in the season and the Tigers are still on top of the heap.

Last year during Black History Month I spoke before a group of mostly Black executives in a Detroit church about the role of the media in economic transformation, community activism and helping Black businesses grow.
