Crowds gathered today across the nation in 100 different cities throughout the United States to lend voice to prayer vigils and rallys in honor of Trayvon Martin's memory. In New York City chants of "I am Trayvon Martin" or "No justice, no peace!" could be heard far and wide.
According to the Huffington Post, Rev. Al Sharpton one of the event's organizers, spoke to crowds saying when he first heard about the Trayvon Martin case he immediately flew to Sanford to a rally. Prior to boarding the plane, Sharpton learned that his own mother had passed away.
"But I went down because if I couldn't hug my mother, I could hug Trayvon Martin's mother."
Sybrina Fulton, Trayvon Martin's mother said,
"They need to change the laws that we all know need changing, because they don't work for us. I'm still the proud mother of Trayvon Martin."
Sharpton also acknowledged the presence of Jay Z and Beyonce at the rally to which he said,
"Jay Z told me, 'I'm a father. Beyonce is a mother.' We all feel the pain and apprehension — the laws must protect everybody, or it doesn't protect anybody. We do not come from hate, we come from love of children."
This meant more to people than those two stars will ever realize and it's nice to see that they didn't want to speak or do anything besides be apart of the day. Often times celebrities forget to use their platforms for unselfish reasons it's refreshing to hear that today wasn't one of those days.
It was also touching to hear the story of Al Sharpton getting on that plane to go hug Sybrina Fulton. Even more touching was hearing the words from Sybrina Fulton herself. We are proud to see this woman and Trayvon's father Tracy lead the way forward. They have been grace under pressure and calm in a sea of torment, rage and anger within this nation. This is only part of the reason we all respect them so much. They gave us all their son and his memory. It is up to the rest of us to make sure it was not in vein.

Rapper J. Cole has apologized to the autism community after comparing the condition to retardation on a recent song, reports Contact Music. In a verse he contributed to Drake's "Jodeci Freestyle," the hip-hop star raps that he's "artistic" while his rivals are "autistic, retarded." As soon as the song hit the airwaves, backlash ensued. Leading the protest against the offensive lyrics was autism crusader actress Holly Robinson Peete, who demanded that Cole issue an apology for his callousness with regards to autism.
Peete, whose eldest son, Rodney Jr., has autism, was reportedly enraged when she heard Cole's reference to the condition and took aim at the 28-year-old rapper, along with others in the autism community
"This was first brought to my attention by my son, who is 15, with autism, loves J.Cole, loves Drake," she told Access Hollywood. " He brought it (up) to me, because he looks at all the lyrics. He said, 'Mom what does this mean?' And I was so devastated when I read it, I had to read it like five times and try to find some other context where this could make sense, 'cause everything I know about J. Cole is that he's a very intelligent man, he went to college, he graduated top of his class. He's a very smart rapper and I understand the artistic expression and everything, but this right here is so irresponsible. It hurt my feelings so much."
Last year, Peete went in on rap mogul 50 Cent after he tweeted what he thought was a joke about autism. After publicly shaming 50 Cent on her website, he removed the offensive tweet from his account.
Meanwhile, Cole, wrote a heartfelt apology to those he offended in the autism community on his website:
"In a recent verse on the song 'Jodeci Freestyle', I said something highly offensive to people with Autism. Last week, when I first saw a comment from someone outraged about the lyric, I realised right away that what I said was wrong. I was instantly embarrassed that I would be ignorant enough say something so hurtful. What makes the crime worse is that I should have known better.
"To the entire Autism community who expressed outrage, I'm moved and inspired by your passion, and I'm amazed at how strong you are as a unit. I have now read stories online from parents about their struggles and triumphs with raising an Autistic child and I admire how incredibly strong you have to be to do so. It's touching. It also makes what I said even more embarrassing for me. I feel real shame. You have every right to be angry."
In an admirable move, Cole also states, that he is eager to learn more about autism so that he can be better informed:
"I want to educate myself more on Autism, and I'll gladly own my mistake and serve as an example to today's generation that there's nothing cool about mean-spirited comments about someone with Autism. People with this disorder and their loved ones have to go through so much already, the last thing they need is to hear something as ignorant as what I said."
Let's hope more MCs watch their tongues before spitting their lyrics.

Hell hath no fury like a woman scorned. Dwyane Wade's ex-wife Siovaughn Funches Wade must really feel scorned because she has been doing everything in her power to embarrass D. Wade and their family. In her latest stunt, Siovaughn Funches Wade staged a sit-in protest outside of a Chicago courthouse claiming D.Wade left her homeless and destitute. The NBA superstar and his attorneys have released a statement claiming Siovaughn is lying.
Dwyane Wade stated:
"Dwyane Wade and his ex-wife Siohvaughn Funches have reached a financial settlement. The agreement was submitted in court last Tuesday, July 16 prior to Ms. Funches' recent unfounded and erratic public display outside the courthouse this past Friday. Dwyane Wade has made several requests over the years to settle this matter, despite Ms. Funches having 16 different attorneys and 2 arrests throughout this process. Mr. Wade has provided a very generous settlement to Ms. Funches to continue to live a wonderful lifestyle for the rest of her life.
Despite false allegations by Ms. Funches claiming to be "homeless" and "destitute," Dwyane Wade has maintained over the years financial support to his ex-wife by providing her with income over $25,000 on a monthly basis, timely paid for her home mortgage, maintenance and security at the house, 4 cars, insurance, taxes and all of her attorney fees throughout this process. Ms. Funches has made a mockery of homelessness which is a serious and personal issue for Mr. Wade as his mother was homeless for a period of time when he was a child.
Dwyane Wade was awarded sole custody of their sons by the court in 2011. The safety and wellbeing of his children are his main priority. Due to Ms. Funches' current unstable mental state, her visitation will be determined by the court. Mr. Wade continues to hope that one day he will have a civil relationship with his ex-wife for the sake of their sons."
While one can't be certain, some of Siovaughn Funches Wade's actions seem to stem from the fact D. Wade has moved on and is seemingly happy in the new space he's in. Nobody wants to be dumped and nobody wants the end of their relationship to be made as public as their breakup was, but it's time for the ex-wife to move on and accept that she and Dwyane Wade are no longer together. I would say she should go find herself a new man, but what man wants to date a woman this crazy about her ex? Exactly. Nobody.
