MUSE Prepares Inner City Students For College

Fourteen-year-old Asia Hudson, a freshman at Detroit’s Renaissance High School, was a bit apprehensive about starting school this year, but after her stint with the MUSE program, she is confident that she has acquired the skills and mindset that will carry her through the next four years.  Asia, a graduate of Ludington Middle School, was a participant in the Motorcity Urban Summer Enrichment program, or MUSE.

Ellis Appointed To Office Of Presiding Bishop

It’s a time of transition for the Pentecostal Assemblies of the World (PAW) as Bishop Charles H. Ellis III, senior pastor of the 6,000- member Greater Grace Temple of Detroit, takes over the reigns of the world’s oldest Apostolic organization.  At the PAW’s International Convention in Minneapolis this year, Bishop Ellis was honored as he was elected without oppositon to the office of presiding bishop.

In 1978, I was honored and humbled to share the stage with Civil Rights First Lady Rosa Parks in Pittsburgh. We were both getting awards from the National Association of Negro Business and Professional Women’s Clubs for our commitment to civil rights. She said something to me there that I never forgot.

Louis Martin: From Chronicle Editor To Presidential Advisor

Louis Martin was 23 years old when he arrived in Detroit on June 6, 1936 as editor and publisher of the newly minted Detroit Chronicle (later the Michigan Chronicle). As he recounted in a July 17, 1976 article, he had to learn fast how to build a newspaper, and trust his own judgment as there were no books on how to do it.
