The unidentified boy, who is the biological child of Batchelor’s hosting family, had been in the care of his 15-year-old sister at the time of the assault. No adults were home at the time of the killing.
The boy’s father, who was guided by a 911 dispatcher, did attempt to perform CPR on Batchelor, but when she was rushed to a nearby hospital, doctors pronounced the small child dead.

Police investigators have not come up with a motive for the excessive beating, but they have listed the toddler’s cause of death as blunt force trauma.
There are no police records of having previously been summoned to the boy’s home on any emergency calls. The youth, who has no police record, will be tried as a juvenile. Although the boy is two years short of being tried for his alleged crime as an adult, the decision can be overturned in a court of law.
