Controlled Violence

It’s only so long before these types of phrases begin to translate to reality in some fashion.  LeGarrette Blount issued an apology for his actions.  He’s not even close to being sorry yet.  He’ll be sorry as he watches his pro chances fade away when he’s labeled “un-coachable” or a “head case.” In 2008 he was suspended twice by Oregon’s former head coach Mike Bellotti for “not following team rules” and “failure to fulfill team obligations” The sucker punch may indeed be his third strike.

We must keep in mind that these happenings only represent a small percentage of the football fraternity.  Guys who keep their noses clean and build rec centers in underprivileged neighborhoods don’t make the news.  Nor are the issues mentioned reserved for black players only.  Players from different ethnic and cultural backgrounds share similar struggles.  Sadly, black players take the blunt of the blows in the media, because players like Blount decide to give blows after games.  Collectively, there has to be a better effort to control the violence.
